Washington Frog Enthusiasts Gather In Seattle To Celebrate Save The Frogs Day

For Immediate Release
Return to the Press Releases Homepage

Seattle, WA, April 3rd, 2012 – Frog lovers and environmentalists of all ages are gearing up for the 4th Annual Save The Frogs Day, set for Saturday, April 28th. The annual celebration is expected to be the largest day of amphibian education and conservation action in the planet's history – and the Seattle Save The Frogs Day 5K Fun Run and Walk will be one of the main events this year. The 5K will take place at Seward Park in Seattle, WA, and is intended to raise awareness of the rapid disappearance of frog species in Washington State and worldwide. The Seattle Save The Frogs Day 5K is being coordinated by SAVE THE FROGS! (, a nonprofit organization dedicated to amphibian conservation. SAVE
THE FROGS! is headquartered in California but recently opened a Pacific Northwest office in Seattle.

Amphibian populations worldwide have been declining at unprecedented rates, and nearly one-third of the world's amphibian species are threatened with extinction. Up to 200 species have completely disappeared in recent years. Washington's amphibians are faced with an onslaught of environmental problems, including climate change, infectious diseases, habitat loss, pollution, and invasive species.

The Seattle Save The Frogs Day will start with a 3.1 mile run at 10:00 am. The flat and paved course makes it convenient for strollers and even your four-legged friends. There will be live music and educational festivities for all ages. At 11:30 am, the top three male and female finishers will be announced during the Award Ceremony, followed by live educational presentations by amphibian biologists from Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, University of Washington and Western Washington University.

Save The Frogs Day has been legally recognized by Governor of North Carolina Bev Perdue, former Governor of Virginia Tim Kaine and the Mayors of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Santa Cruz, California. "We are expecting about 200 educational events to take place in over 30 countries", says Dr. Kerry Kriger, the Founder of SAVE THE FROGS!.
