Dear [[First_Name]],

Over 110 frog lovers have contributed to our fundraising campaign, but we are still $3,100 away from our $10,000 goal, and our campaign expires tonight at midnight! Please donate and help ensure we have the resources to run our worldwide amphibian conservation programs, and ban the harmful pesticide Atrazine, which you can read all about below!

Please donate right now at:

August 26th, 2013:
My submission to the EPA's Atrazine 2013 Call For Comments

On August 26th, I submitted this comment to the EPA as part of their official call for comments related to their 15-year review of Atrazine, which is one of the world's most common pesticides. Over 80 million pounds of it were used on American crops last year. This harmful pesticide is an endocrine disruptor that can turn male frogs into females at concentrations as low as 2.5 parts per billion. Atrazine is one of the most commonly detected pesticides in rainwater, groundwater and tapwater in the USA and is used on corn, sugar, sorghum, yams, rice, christmas trees, and for lawn care. Here is my comment:

"As the Founder & Executive Director of SAVE THE FROGS! and as a concerned citizen, I seek a clean America in which to live: an America where I am not afraid to drink the tap water or to eat the food being served in restaurants or supermarkets; an America where pesticides do not rain down out of the sky on top of me; an America where our wildlife do not get deformed by the chemicals we introduce into their habitats without their consent. Thus I urge you to place an immediate federal ban on the use and production of Atrazine, a heavily used herbicide and a known endocrine-disruptor that is already banned in the European Union. The EPA’s mission to protect human and environmental health will not be fulfilled so long as Atrazine continues to contaminate our land and water."

EPA Denies SAVE THE FROGS! 2011 Petition for a Federal Ban on the Use And Production of Atrazine

On August 27th, 2013 the US EPA's Director of Office of Pesticide Programs Dr. Steven Bradbury sent me a letter denying our 2011 petition to ban Atrazine, which included 10,012 signatures (note: we are continuing to collect signatures!).

SAVE THE FROGS! Official Response to EPA's Petition Denial

On September 4th, 2013 I responded to the EPA with a letter detailing the government's flawed rationale and requesting a meeting with Dr. Bradbury.

Read my September 4th, 2013 letter to the EPA here.

"To allow the continued use and production of Atrazine, the EPA sets a dangerous precedent by condoning environmental destruction and implying that it is environmentally sound and ethical to dump poison on American soil -- and on Americans."

Save The Frogs Day Rally at EPA Headquarters in Washington DC, April 29, 2011

November 7th, 2013:
SAVE THE FROGS! meets with the EPA's Director of Office of Pesticide Programs

My meeting request was granted and took place yesterday November 7th, 2013 with EPA Director of office of Pesticide Programs Dr. Bradbury and six members of his staff in Arlington, VA. At the meeting, I delivered the EPA an additional 17,935 petition signatures and asked the following questions (as well as some others!):

- Why hasn't Atrazine been banned?
- Is Administrator McCarthy aware of the Atrazine issue?
- Does the EPA incorporate Dr. Tyrone Hayes' data into decision making?
- What type of data would result in an EPA decision to ban Atrazine?
- Does the EPA trust the USGS studies?
- Does the EPA trust the USDA data?
- How can the EPA assure us our food is safe if the tests cannot detect atrazine on corn below 15ppm?
- Have any EPA members been informed they will lose their jobs if they ban Atrazine?
- Does Administrator McCarthy have the power to ban Atrazine with a signature?
- Will a representative of EPA take part in a public online Q&A?
- Precisely what role do economics hold in the EPA's decision to ban Atrazine?
- Why does the EPA care to protect the products of a foreign company?
- Does the EPA deny the European Union's findings regarding Atrazine?
- Approximately how many meetings has the EPA had with pesticide or corn lobbyists regarding Atrazine since May 2011?

We expect to meet again in 2014. I will detail the path forward and some of the EPA's responses to these questions in an upcoming STF! newsletter.

Order some Atrazine cards and help spread the word

We are certain that the EPA will ban Atrazine...but they will not do so until we have an educated, informed public whose voice is more powerful than that of the multi-billion dollar pesticide companies. These two-sided 4x6" info cards are a great way to help spread the word about Atrazine: order a set of cards here.
