SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger gave presentations on "Amphibian Conservation in the 21st Century" to the students of Carson Elementary School.

January 9th, 2014: Beatty, NV

SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger will be presenting at the California Nevada Amphibians Population Task Force meeting in Beatty, NV. Dr. Kriger will discuss "Opportunities for scientists, politicians and government agencies to protect California's declining amphibian populations".

Here is the abstract of Dr. Kriger's presentation:
California's amphibians continue to decline in numbers even though most of the threats they face are well understood. Federal, state and local governments have been slow to enact legislation to protect amphibians and until they do we should expect amphibian population declines to continue. Thus it is imperative that governments work rapidly to implement necessary legal measures and equally imperative that scientists take a more active role in the political process. A paradigm shift is needed in the scientific community to ensure that scientists view the publication of their research as a step along the path towards the implementation of measures needed to protect wildlife, rather than an endpoint that enables them to begin their next study. In my presentation I will detail SAVE THE FROGS! efforts to: (1) enact a statewide ban on the importation of live American Bullfrogs (Lithobates catesbeianus) into California; (2) enact a federal ban on the use and production of the harmful pesticide Atrazine; (3) ensure the USFWS provides endangered species status and critical habitat to the Rana sierra, Rana muscosa and Bufo canorus; (4) ensure the National Park Service removes non-native fish from over 60 waterbodies in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks; (5) prevent the California State Parks' planned conversion of Tesla Park into an off-road vehicle recreation area; and (6) prevent the City of San Francisco from draining the Sharp Park Wetlands and otherwise killing and endangering the federally protected wildlife that lives there.

Global Day of Palm Oil Awareness

Come to the SAVE THE FROGS! Education Center for this free event focused on the destructive palm oil industry, how it affects frogs, and how you can help. Can you imagine all of Indonesia and Malaysia's rainforests turned into a monoculture of palm trees? Unfortunately that is what is happening right now! Palm oil is now the world's most commonly used vegetable oil. It is grown in tropical areas and used primarily for candies and soaps. The palm oil industry is destroying rainforests that frogs and other wildlife depend on, and many major American corporations are purchasing and selling you their destructive palm oil. SAVE THE FROGS! Founder Dr. Kerry Kriger will be leading this session on one of the world's greatest threats to tropical wildlife.

SAVE THE FROGS! was very happy to host the crew of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society at the SAVE THE FROGS! Education Center on August 9th, 2014. We heard inspiring stories from environmental conservationists who put their life on the line for the environment, battling illegal whalers in the Antarctic seas and around the globe. We also heard about environmentalists currently spending twenty years in prison, including years in solitary confinement for defending the Earth. Let's make sure we all make the most of our freedom and amp up our personal efforts to protect the planet.

August 16th, 2014: International Take A Hike Day

Conceived and coordinated by SAVE THE FROGS!, the goal of the International Take A Hike Day is to get people outside! When people love nature they are much more willing to protect nature. But as habitats get destroyed and technology consumes more of our time, the disconnect between people and nature grows. In the 21st century, making sure we spend time outdoors is more important than ever...plus hiking is enjoyable and healthy! So please mark your calendar for the 2nd Annual International Take A Hike Day! All you have to do to take part is go for a hike or spend some time in the great outdoors. You'll reconnect with your roots and remember what is at stake if we don't act quickly to protect nature and wildlife. We encourage all hiking and wildlife groups to arrange hikes on August 16th and spread the word about the International Take A Hike Day. Don't worry if you don't have a local group, just go for a hike by yourself or with some friends and family.
