Frog Lecture

This page contains information on how to book a lecture on frogs by world-renowned amphibian biologist Dr. Kerry Kriger, Founder and Executive Director of SAVE THE FROGS! Nonprofit Organization.

You can view a list of Dr. Kriger's currently scheduled talks here.

The Amphibian Extinction Crisis

A 45- minute lecture by
Dr. Kerry M. Kriger

Frog populations worldwide have been declining at unprecedented rates, and nearly one-third of the world's 6,490 amphibian species are threatened with extinction. Amphibians are faced with an onslaught of environmental problems, including pollution, infectious diseases, habitat loss, invasive species, climate change, and over-harvesting for the pet and food trades. In this PowerPoint presentation Dr. Kriger will discuss these threats and explain how they affect various groups of amphibians. He will also discuss the necessary actions that must occur in order to prevent further amphibian declines and extinctions. The presentation features many of his photos of amphibians from around the world, and there will be a question and answer session following the talk.

Note: this lecture can be adapted for any age group.

Dr. Kriger's Bio

Dr. Kriger is the Founder & Executive Director of SAVE THE FROGS! (www.savethefrogs.com), a nonprofit organization dedicated to amphibian conservation. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Griffith University in Gold Coast, Australia, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. His current research focuses on the amphibian disease chytridiomycosis, a topic on which he has published 15 articles in peer-reviewed international scientific journals. His research into amphibian declines has been supported by the National Geographic Society and various philanthropic organizations throughout the world, and he has presented the results of his research at scientific conferences in several countries. Dr. Kriger has previously done research on endangered Hawaiian birds, and on the biophysical properties of amino acids involved in cystic fibrosis. He has taught university courses in Ecology, Vertebrate Biology, Applied Mathematics and Chemistry, has written and edited chapters for encyclopedias, and is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Portuguese. He has climbed mountains in the Himalayas, Alps, Alaska Range, Southern Alps and the Andes, and is an avid photographer who has created calendars and posters featuring his wildlife photography.
