Andreas Hertz

The current list of amphibians known to occur in Panama refers to 209 species. Almost every year this number increases by new country records or description of new species.
The Cordillera Central of southern Costa Rica and western Panama is a high amphibian endemism area and home to a great number of species. Especially in this region severe amphibian decline and die offs were observed. Nevertheless, some species thought to be lost were rediscovered in recent days. Hopefully it´s the beginning of a recovery in some populations.
All fotos within this album were taken by myself in western Panama within the last two years.
