Extinct Amphibians of the World
In this album you can see photos of many of the world's extinct amphibian species. Up to 200 amphibian species have completely disappeared in the last 30 years, and this is NOT normal: background extinction rates based on the fossil record suggest that amphibians should naturally go extinct at a rate of only about one species every 250 years!!!
The primary causes of these extinctions are pollution, loss of habitat, climate change, invasive species, road mortality, over-harvesting for the pet and food trades, and the infectious disease chytridiomycosis, which is spread by human activity. As the human population spirals out of control, these threats will continue to grow, unless immediate action is taken.
EXTINCTION IS FOREVER! Please support amphibian conservation projects by purchasing one of the beautiful frog posters or calendars available at www.savethefrogs.com. All profits go to SAVE THE FROGS!
We are attempting to make this album the most comprehensive collection of extinct amphibian photos and information on the planet. If you have photos, or if you would like to contribute a paragraph about a species, or your thoughts or memories on a species, please send an email to kerry@savethefrogs.com. All contributions will be duly acknowledged.
