Schismaderma carens; Red Toad small

Schismaderma carens; Red Toad (young). Abundant and common in South Africa. Will breed in deep pools, reservoirs and even swimming pools. Forage widely and hide in holes in trees and rocks during the day. Frequently takes up residence in homes (we know of 5 or 6 living in ours). Males have a deep and loud call which they emit whilst floating. They especially like pools in courtyards and large open pipes or culverts where the call is amplified by the surrounding walls.
