Essentials tips for building your first website

Introduction

The internet provides an amazing framework for educating a large number of people in a very short time, with relative ease. When I decided to build this site, I had no prior web design experience, and I had only conceived of a small fraction of what you see here today. Yet from the time I started teaching myself web design to the time I got the site online (in essentially its current form) took only one month. Here are my tips.

Get the programs

Adobe's Dreamweaver CS3 will make your life easy (well, easier). No computer programming skills necessary. And Adobe's Photoshop CS3 will make manipulating photos simple.

Read the book

Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual by David Sawyer McFarland. This book will tell you everything you need to know about designing a website from scratch, and with amazing clarity. I give it a 10 out of 10 without thinking twice.

Host your site

I strongly recommend using Dreamhost. On top of being carbon-neutral, they have a user-friendly website that will make your life easy.
