Why We March
Frogs have become an unexpected symbol of peaceful resistance and creative activism. From Portland’s giant inflatable frogs to democracy protests in Hong Kong, these remarkable amphibians represent something profound: the interconnection between environmental health and democratic freedom.
When amphibians disappear—victims of habitat destruction, pollution, and climate change—it’s a warning sign that our ecosystems are in crisis. When democratic values are threatened, our ability to protect the environment we all depend on is undermined. As such, we must speak up to defend both the natural world and democracy. The Million Frog March stands at the intersection of these urgent issues.

We march for:

We have plenty of ideas for your sign! The main themes should focus on defending democracy; freedom of speech; peace; amphibian conservation and environmental protection.
Code Of Conduct
The Million Frog March is a peaceful, nonviolent demonstration. All participants must commit to the following principles:
- ✅ Nonviolence: We do not engage in violence or property damage of any kind
- ✅ Respect: Treat all people with dignity, including those who disagree with us

- ✅ Family-Friendly: Keep language and signage appropriate for all ages—no profanity

- ✅ Document Everything: Take photos and videos to share our message, and for transparency and safety

Why Frogs?
Frogs and amphibians are disappearing faster than almost any other group of animals on Earth. Over 200 species have gone extinct in recent decades, and thousands more are threatened. They face habitat destruction, pollution, climate change, disease, and over-consumption.
But frogs are also:
- Indicator species that reflect the health of entire ecosystems
- Medical marvels whose skin produces compounds being studied for diabetes treatment and antimicrobial medicines
- Pest controllers that keep insect populations in check naturally
- Beautiful, diverse, and fascinating creatures that deserve protection in their own right
- A modern day symbol of democracy, peace and freedom of speech
When we save the frogs, we save ecosystems. When we save ecosystems, we protect clean water, breathable air, and a livable planet for everyone.
And when frogs become symbols of peaceful resistance—as they have in Portland, Hong Kong, and beyond—they remind us that even the smallest voice can make the biggest impact when we come together. Here are even more reasons to SAVE THE FROGS!
