The slideshow presentation features many of my photos of amphibians from around the world, and I will outline my vision for the future. There will be a question and answer session following the presentation.

I am extremely pleased to announce that SAVE THE FROGS! has joined forces with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) to ensure that Save The Frogs Day becomes one of the largest days of environmental action on the planet. The National Wildlife Federation's mission is to inspire Americans to protect wildlife for our children's future™. One of the largest conservation in the world, the National Wildlife Federation works with over 4 million members, partners, and supporters to actively educate, inspire, and promote achievable solutions to everyday Americans in communities from coast-to-coast. Their conservation work focuses on three major areas that will have the biggest impact on the future of America’s wildlife: Providing solutions to global warming, safeguarding wildlife and wild places, and connecting people with nature.  Thanks to Danielle Brigida for helping to make this happen!

Save The Frogs Day is Official in Santa Cruz

Mayor Mike Rotkin issued a proclamation yesterday officially declaring April 30th, 2010 "SAVE THE FROGS! DAY" in the City of Santa Cruz, California (home of SAVE THE FROGS World Headquarters). Mr. Rotkin encourages all citizens from all walks of life to appreciate and celebrate amphibians on this day. Mayor Rotkin will join me on the morning of Save The Frogs Day as I introduce a local elementary school’s students to the Wild World of Frogs. The Mayor will help me and the kids recreate the night-time sounds of the Australian rainforest (he is not yet aware of this).

You can click on the image below to get an 8.5x11" PDF of the proclamation. Feel free to post one in your school or office!

The Race To Stop Dissections

The frog dissections trade, like the frog legs trade, is responsible for the depletion of wild populations, the spread of invasive species, and the spread of infectious diseases. The largely unregulated trade is posing serious threat to amphibian populations from the USA, Egypt, Nepal, and elsewhere. Fortunately, there are excellent alternatives to traditional frog dissection that provide a high quality education and have less impact on the environment.

We are pleased to have teamed up with the Digital Frog International for a major campaign to get frog dissections out of all United States high schools. The Digital Frog International's software Digital Frog 2.5 not only saves the need for using real frogs, the entire program is a wealth of information on the anatomy and ecology of amphibians.

To kick off The Race To Stop Dissections Campaign, the Digital Frog International is offering -- on Save The Frogs Day only -- 25% off the regular price of The Digital Frog 2.5, AND they are donating 25% of the proceeds to SAVE THE FROGS. So please get yourself or your school a copy of this fantastic software on Friday April 30th, the 2nd Annual Save The Frogs Day! The Digital Frog 2.5 will save the frogs, and save you money in the long run: all those frogs, scalpels and bottles of formaldehyde add up!

Frog Dissection Factoid: Dr. Samy Zalat, a professor of biodiversity and evolutionary biology in Egypt's Ministry of Environment, estimates that over one million Egyptian frogs are taken out of the wild each year for use in university laboratories.
