Save The Frogs Day Worldwide Events Listing
Dear SAVE THE FROGS! Supporter,
Save The Frogs Day is upon us! This Friday (April 29th) we celebrate the 3rd Annual Save The Frogs Day, which will be the largest day of amphibian education and conservation action in the planet's history. There are at least 113 amphibious events set to take place in 19 countries and 24 US states! Thanks to everybody who is taking part! SAVE THE FROGS! on CNN
One of the reasons I founded SAVE THE FROGS! was because people always used to ask me "why frogs?". Now more than ever before I feel that an educated public is the key to protecting the natural world. Thus I was extremely excited to hear from Azadeh Ansari, a CNN reporter. Azadeh featured Save The Frogs Day on CNN's worldwide television network and will be writing articles for CNN.com over the next couple days, helping to spread our message across the planet.

Dr. Tyrone Hayes to speak at Rally in Washington, DC
We are pleased to announce that world-reknowned Atrazine researcher Dr. Tyrone Hayes of UC Berkeley will speak about his research at our Save The Frogs Day Rally in Washington, DC Friday April 29th. Dr. Hayes will speak at noon in front of the US Environmental Protection Agency (corner 12th and Pennsylvania), and likely again in Lafayette Plaza at 2pm. Do not miss this! SAVE THE FROGS! on National Geographic Radio
Do you like National Geographic? I do too. Two years ago I spoke at the National Geographic Headquarters, and earlier this month I appeared for the second time on National Geographic Radio with host Boyd Mattson. Save The Frogs Funds Four Projects In India & Nepal
Last month we announced that Hari Bahadur Rana of Chitwan, Nepal won a $500 grant to fund Save The Frogs Day events at his university. We are pleased to announce three new awards:
Rajesh Jha of Kathmandu, Nepal: $150
Pramod Bhattarai of Bharatpur, Nepal: $200
Apurba Banerjee of Kolkata, India: $70
The funds -- made possible by SAVE THE FROGS! supporters -- will allow all three to hold Save The Frogs Day events and educate students in their communities about the numerous threats frogs face in their region: pesticides, habitat destruction and over-harvesting for frog legs and dissections. Our goal for the 4th Annual Save The Frogs Day (April 28, 2012) is to be able to fund more awards, and for larger amounts. That of course depends on your support!

What we're up against
Syngenta (the world's largest pesticide company and producers of Atrazine) is stepping up their efforts to spread their disinformation and pro-pesticide propaganda. They or the lobbying firms that represent them are now buying high priced, top-of-the-page Google Adwords for the search terms 'Save The Frogs' and 'Save the Frogs Day'. The ads link to sites that attempt to persuade the public that Atrazine is "Safe For Wildlife".
Syngenta realizes the only thing that stands between us getting Atrazine banned is how successfully we educate the Americans about the harm the pesticide causes. That an 11 billion dollar company is watching SAVE THE FROGS! clearly demonstrates that our amphibian conservation efforts are producing results. BUT...it also means we are going to have to step up our efforts to overcome their disinformation campaigns!
To make matters worse, the US Congress is passing the most anti-environment legislation in years. A few weeks ago the Congress stripped Endangered Species Act protection from wolves (what animal group is next?). This coming Tuesday the House Agricultural Committee wild hold a hearing featuring invited speakers only, called “At Risk: American Jobs, Agriculture, Health and Species--the Costs of Federal Regulatory Dysfunction". The English translation: some members of the House think that regulating deadly chemicals signifies a dysfunctional government.
This Friday we will march through the streets of DC to ensure that our politicians and the US public know we will not tolerate a government controlled by the pesticide companies. And we will grow this movement so that the anti-environment legislators never get voted in or appointed in the first place!
