The 8th Annual Save The Frogs Day (April 30th, 2016) was the largest day of amphibian education and conservation action in the planet's history, directly reaching over 14,000 participants, with at least 142 events taking place in 28 countries: Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, Ghana, India, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tanzania, United Kingdom and the USA. Thanks to everyone who made Save The Frogs Day 2016 possible!
Conceived and coordinated by SAVE THE FROGS!, Save The Frogs Day is the world's largest day of amphibian education and conservation action. On this day we encourage the appreciation and celebration of amphibians by people from all walks of life. Only a small proportion of the public is aware that frogs are disappearing, and amphibian conservation efforts will not be successful with an un-informed public. Our goal is to make the amphibian extinction crisis common knowledge, and Save The Frogs Day is our best way to make this happen!
Here are some highlights from the 8th Annual Save The Frogs Day:
SAVE THE FROGS! supporters organized rallies, marches and parades in their neighborhoods to educate their communities about the benefits of frogs in ecosystems.
Students, teachers, academics and community members march in Godagari, Bangladesh.
Students in Rajasthan, India prepare to march!
International Chapters of SAVE THE FROGS! brought awareness to issues threatening amphibian populations in their countries.
"SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana's chapters at Kwabeng and the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies observed this year's Save The Frogs Day under the theme: 'Saving The Iconic Togo Slippery Frog to Save Livelihoods.' With their help, we were able to talk to hundreds of local people to promote the protection of the home of the critically endangered Togo Slippery Frog (Conraua derooi) at the Atewa Forest Reserve, one of Ghana's most biodiverse areas unfortunately threatened by both legal and illegal mining." - SAVE THE FROGS! Ghana
- SAVE THE FROGS! Paraguay

“The docents and Conservation Teen Scientists of Zoo Miami hosted a SAVE THE FROGS! booth at the Party for the Planet Earth Day event at the Zoo. We had all kinds of informational posters, quizzes and interactive games. We put an iPod with frog sounds inside the toad abode so we had froggie music all day long. A very popular draw to our tables is "frog food" and the tadpoles. We did temporary frog tattoos (for donations) - we didn't really raise much money this weekend but we certainly got to raise a lot of awareness. A fun game is our magnetic letter Amphibian Anagram word scramble and a fun activity is our Frog Jump. Everyone loves our little frog and tadpole sock puppets and we enjoy teaching kids to love and appreciate frogs early on. We laminated and cut out frogs to trace and color on a table covered with white paper and we also had a box full of assorted frog coloring pages. We had a great event and plan on doing it again next year!! Thanks for all you are doing to help SAVE THE FROGS!"
- Holly Draluck, Docent, Zoo Miami
"Our third Save The Frogs! bake sale fundraiser was a success. We set up our information and baked goods table in a local shopping center in north Auburn, California. Once again, our assortment of lemon bars and cookies were a hit – along with our rescue-dog mascot, the “Frog Dog”, Tazz. We’re still a bit surprised that many people do not know the danger of extinction our amphibian friends face. Many times we heard, “Frogs are in trouble, really?” A lot of people do not know that they are under duress due to pesticides, loss of habitat, invasive species, climate change and more. On Save The Frogs Day this year, we were excited to once again educate (our #1 goal) over 150 people and receive over $300 to support the STF organization’s efforts. Thank you STF! For all that you do to help the frogs."
- Nancy and Taylor Lichtle
On Save The Frogs Day scientists gave presentations about amphibian ecology and conservation to members of their communities.
“I held a Save the Frogs Day event in Melbourne Australia with 28 participants including children and their parents. We started off with a frog talk and slide presentation, then headed out to a pond to listen and look for frogs. The children were then able to do a range of art and craft activities on frogs. It was a successful day, with parents and children all learning new things about frogs, and that some of them are endangered and need our help.”
- Christina Renowden, Wildlife Biologist
Amphibian biologist Carlos Madrid lectures about amphibian conservation in Mexico City.
On Save The Frogs Day nature lovers and frog enthusiasts combined their two passions and went out into the wild to observe and appreciate amphibians in their natural habitats.

…and the students of an elementary school in Florida literally SAVED THE FROGS!
“...we were able to save tens of thousands of tadpoles to give them a chance to grow into adult frogs by removing eight 5 gallon buckets full of tadpoles. We had 14 inches of rain that created a temporary pond that was going to dry up within days and the tadpoles still needed 5-6 weeks to mature. I teach the Gifted students in several schools. At Van R. Butler school in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, my students learned about Save the Frog Day by going over the life cycle of our native frogs and contributed by relocating thousands of these tadpoles. We studied the life cycle of frogs to give the handsonlearners a chance to flourish. Thank you for your cause, Brandin Shost”
