In 2016, I led a project in saving the stream dependent mountain frogs (locally called “Paha”) in the highlands of Manaslu Conservation Area, Nepal. Paha are hunted widely in the mountains of Nepal, including the lower settlements of Manaslu, primarily for food use and secondarily for presumed health benefits. Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund Supports the Amphibians of Nepal

Congratulations to SAVE THE FROGS! Task Force Member Biraj Shrestha for winning his first grant from the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund. The $2,500 award will enable the Biraj and his team to research Rara Lake frogs in western Nepal and gather more information about these data deficient species. This award will greatly benefit the amphibians of Nepal!

SAVE MANASLU’S FROGS! Research Expedition

SAVE THE FROGS! Task Force Member Biraj Shrestha returned to the Manaslu Conservation Area in March 2017 for a three week research expedition into some of the world’s most dangerous montane amphibian habitats. The “SAVE MANASLU’S FROGS! Research Expedition” was the first expedition of its kind. SAVE THE FROGS! thanks our generous donors who helped us raise $1,700 to fund this frog conservation initiative. Save The Frogs Day 2017 in Sanepa, Nepal

On the 9th Annual Save The Frogs Day, Environmental Graduates in Himalaya (EGH) along with Resources Himalaya Foundation (RHF) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Nepal organized a day-long amphibian conservation program on 28th April, 2017 in Sanepa, Nepal. The event was categorized into two sessions; Celebration with School Kids (Session I) and University Students (Session II) that included activities like photo exhibition, frog painting, mural art, merch and bake sale along with the short video clips depicting the information about the frogs. Mr. Ugan Manandhar, Deputy Director of WWF Nepal and the Chief Guest for the program, presented on the traditional importance of frogs and their need for greater conservation efforts, which was followed by the prize distribution for the ‘Junior Art Competition’ conducted on 25th April. A total of 62 students attended and the program ended with the closing remarks of Prof Dr Ram B Chhetri, RHF Chairperson. Later, he handed certificates of appreciation to our volunteers whose tireless efforts have brought this event into a froggy fruition.

Biraj Shrestha Wins Award To Travel From Nepal To The United Kingdom

Dear Frog Lovers,
Greetings from the Himalayas! It gives me great pleasure to share with you that I have won a Future Leader of Conservation Award and will be participating in the Amphibian Conservation Research Symposium (ACRS) to be held at Canterbury, UK this year from June 23-26. The award funds my travel expenses from Nepal. This will be my second time leaving Nepal (my first international trip was to Indonesia). I will be giving an oral presentation at the conference entitled “Saving Stream Dwelling Frogs (Paha) in the remote mountains of Manaslu Conservation Area, Nepal”.
